Register as Peer Mentor

There are many definitions of mentor:
• An experienced and trusted adviser.
• An experienced person in a company or educational institution who trains and counsels.
• An experienced person who offers help and advice over a period of time.
Research demonstrates the value of peer mentoring and how mentoring can make a significant difference to those receiving mentoring support as well as to the community at large.
There are many situations where parent and carer peer mentors are essential. Some may be voluntary situations (i.e. speaking to a group of students or employees about your lived experience as a carer) and some may be paid (i.e. peer group facilitation and/or training). Parent peer mentors across Tasmania have been involved in lobbying for important services supports and community changes as well as establishing new services and supports throughout history.
Whatever the situation Finding Your Way highly values the role of parent peer mentor in our community and plans to harness the skills of these individuals and promote their availability through the Finding a Peer Mentor page.
If you are a current and/or past parent or carer of a person with disability, please register as a peer mentor or call ACD for more information on Freecall 1800 244 742.
