Asthma Australia is putting women’s health in the spotlight during Asthma Week 2026 (1-7 September) with its powerful campaign, She Needs to Breathe.
While asthma affects people of all ages and genders, girls and women experience a disproportionate burden of the condition. After puberty, asthma becomes more common in females, with women experiencing higher rates of hospitalisation throughout adulthood and more than twice the number of asthma-related deaths compared to men.
This year’s campaign highlights how hormonal changes throughout a woman’s life, from puberty and pregnancy through to menopause and older age, can influence asthma symptoms and management. By sharing real stories from women living with asthma, Asthma Australia aims to raise awareness of these often-overlooked experiences and encourage important conversations about women’s respiratory health.
Throughout the week, the organisation will invite women to share their insights and experiences, helping to build a greater understanding of how asthma impacts women at different stages of life.
Organisations and community groups can help spread the message by registering to receive an Asthma Week communications pack, which will be distributed in mid-August.
Together, we can help ensure every woman has the support, understanding and care she needs to breathe easier.
