Low sensory performance: ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time’

The Launceston Players will shortly be presenting a play at the Earl Arts Centre called ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time’.

The play, based on the award-winning book of the same name, is about a character called Christopher, who goes on an adventure to find out who killed a dog called Wellington. Christopher is an interesting character, as he hates being touched, hates anything yellow, is highly accomplished at maths, rarely makes eye contact, and sees the world differently from his peers.

The author, Mark Haddon, does not use any words to describe Christopher’s condition, but it is clear he has special needs.

The Launceston Players will present a one-off special performance on Sunday, 6 April at 11.00 am, which might interest you and your clients. This show will be a low-sensory performance, and the attached flyer will give you an idea of how it differs from other performances. For people who might not otherwise go to the theatre because it can be an overwhelming experience, this one might be one that will be calmer, safer, more controlled and an overall better experience. Also, people with conditions like Christopher’s might enjoy the experience of seeing someone with their needs succeeding in their journey – it might be one of recognition and enrichment.

They are offering a special price for this performance ($30 adults and $25 concessions) and are limiting the number attending to just 100 so that the theatre space will not be too crowded.
