GPs to diagnose & treat ADHD from 2026 in Tasmania

From 2026, Tasmanian GPs will join other Australian states, including New South Wales, South Australia, and Western Australia, in being able to diagnose and treat ADHD after undergoing specific training.

Health Minister Bridget Archer said the reforms would require regulatory rather than legislative change, with the Department of Health currently working through consultation and training requirements.

Hopefully, this will assist with the current delays for Tasmanians and help those who are having to either wait or consult with interstate professionals. An interim law change will also soon let Tasmanians fill interstate ADHD prescriptions locally, providing short-term relief while the broader rollout is prepared.
