🗣️🗣️ Have your Say: Foundational Supports 🗣️🗣️

There are a lot of changes happening in the NDIS area at the moment. We wanted to reach out with you to let you know about a change which involves a review of General and Foundational Supports, and will have an effect on all NDIS participants, in particular families of children in the early intervention space. This is children under nine years old with developmental concern, delay and/or disability.

This is currently in the design stage and the Department of Social Services (DSS) is consulting on these supports.

It is important that you have input into how Foundational Supports for our children as it will have a direct effect on your family if your child is a NDIS participant.

This consultation also aims to gather your views on the existing services available for children and families.

What are Foundational Supports?

Foundational Supports are specific types of assistance that will be available outside the NDIS to help individuals with disability, as well as their families and carers.

Many people with disability are not on the NDIS. Some of these people, who are not on the NDIS, may need more help than what is offered through mainstream or community services, like early childhood education, schools, and community mental health. This is where additional Foundational Supports can assist.

There are different types of Foundational Supports:

  • General supports which include information and guidance, peer supports, and capacity building. These will help people with disability, and their families, live a better life. These are for people who are, and are not accessing, the NDIS.
  • Targeted Supports are focused on people who are not accessing the NDIS but need additional support. These supports will focus on assisting people with specific needs (i.e. children with developmental difference).
