šŸ“¢ Important NDIS Update: Change to NDIS Funding Periods šŸ“¢

The NDIA is starting to make changes to help participants manage their NDIS budgets more easily.

šŸ—“ļøĀ What’s changing?
FromĀ 19 May 2025, new and updated NDIS plans will includeĀ funding periods. This means participants will get their funding in smaller amounts over time, instead of all at once.

šŸ’¬Ā Why is this happening?
Some participants said it’s hard to manage their money when they get it all at the start of their plan. It can lead to spending too much too quickly.

🧾 What is a funding period?
A funding period is the time when part of a participant’s money is available to use.

  • Most funding periods will beĀ 3 months long.
  • TheĀ total amount of funding stays the same.
  • It just changesĀ whenĀ the money is available.
  • If money isn’t used in one period, it rolls over to the next one (but not into a new plan).

šŸ’”Ā More money can be given earlyĀ if needed — for example, to buy equipment or make home changes.

šŸ‘„Ā Who will this affect?
Only people getting aĀ new or updated planĀ after 19 May 2025.
The NDIA will talk with each participant to understand their needs before making changes.

šŸ› ļøĀ The NDIA has been working with:

  • People with disability
  • Carers
  • Disability organisations
  • Advisory groups

They want to make sure the changes are fair and helpful.
