Quick Summary
Families and carers play a vital role in supporting people with disabilities. They are often involved in making decisions for the person they care for or have responsibility for. A child’s representative is usually a person with parental responsibility and the N.D.I.S. has rules to determine who has this responsibility. It can then be decided who is the best person to represent the child and make decisions for them. Sometimes, a child is able to make decisions for her or himself for the purposes of the N.D.I.S. However, in most cases the child requires a representative to act in their best interests. In some cases, the N.D.I.S. may decide that the child should be represented by a person who is not their parent.

Have you completed a Carer Statement?
A Carer Statement is a letter written by someone who is caring for a person living with a disability. It is not compulsory for an NDIS application or NDIS Plan Review but will certainly strengthen your case as it provides a clearer picture of the supports needed. A carer statement can be difficult to write, so check out this MYCARESPACE template to help you get started. https://mycarespace.com.au/resources/writing-an-ndis-carer-statement-template
