N.D.I.S. and health
Quick Summary
The N.D.I.S. will fund some of the health support you or the person you care for need. Some of the health supports you need might be available in the mainstream healthcare system. Mainstream services can be used by all people, whether they have a disability or not, for example doctors, Community Health Centres and hospitals. The N.D.I.S. may fund some of the things you need because of a disability that might be unavailable or limited in the mainstream system. The N.D.I.S. is meant to add extra support to these services, not replace them. These include – allied health services, personal care, training of carers, prosthetics, aids and equipment, therapeutic supports and home modifications. There are some things the N.D.I.S. will not fund, including – diagnosis, medication, dental services, palliative care, and hearing and vision services that are not related to the person’s disability.
