NDIS and mental health

 Quick Summary

People with long term disability because of a mental health condition may be able to access the N.D.I.S. Disabilities that arise because of a mental health condition are known as psychosocial disabilities. Not everyone who has a mental illness will experience psychosocial disability. To be eligible for the N.D.I.S. you must be able to provide evidence that your mental health condition significantly affects your everyday life, and is likely to remain throughout your lifetime. Your treating doctor will need to confirm this to the N.D.I.S. You may experience improvements in your mental health and still be eligible for N.D.I.S. funding. The N.D.I.S. funds supports that assist with day to day living and participation in the community. It does not fund clinical supports such as mental health services, early intervention, treatments or residential care. If you are not satisfied about a decision the N.D.I.S. has made, you can request an internal review, or reapply for funding with more evidence.
