Recovery and rehabilitation
Recovering from a mental illness can take time and is different for everybody. Recovery is a personal journey that may involve changing attitudes, values and feelings, or changing your lifestyle to help you recover and stay well. Different types of mental illness require different types of treatment. Rehabilitation is the treatment process by which mental health services provide the help that is needed and reduce the impacts that may accompany mental illness. Treatment may be delivered in a clinic or hospital or in a community setting. In most cases, your G.P. is your first point of contact in accessing rehabilitation services. You can also call the Mental Health Service Helpline for advice, assessment and referral on 1 8 0 0 3 3 2 3 8 8.
