Hospitals
Quick Summary
There are four major public hospitals in Tasmania, and they are run by the State Government. These are: Royal Hobart Hospital, Launceston General Hospital, North West Regional Hospital (Burnie) and Mersey Community Hospital (Latrobe). A number of private hospitals also operate in Tasmania. In a private hospital, you pay for your treatment. If you have private healthcare it may cover some of the cost of treatment in a private hospital. When you or your child are going to hospital, it is a good idea to be as prepared as you can. This will help you to cope with the change in routine and being away from home. Ideas for preparing for a hospital visit include: visiting the hospital beforehand or looking at pictures online, reading books or social stories about visiting the hospital, and packing a favourite toy or blanket to bring along.
