Softball is a bat and ball sport played outdoors. The pitcher throws the ball towards the batter, who hits it into the field of play. The batter then runs as far as possible around the bases, set out in a diamond shape on the field, before the ball is returned to designated players on the fielding team. If the batter makes it all the way around the diamond, they score a run, but if a fielder catches the ball, the batter is out. The team with the most runs scored at the end of the game is the winner.
